Charming antique grainsacks – versatile to use and beautiful beyond words

The unique advantages of linen fabrics were already known among the citizens of many ancient towns. Thanks to their robustness and tensile strength, they weren’t solely used as clothes, bed linen or table linen though, but also sewed up to linen bags in which grain was stored. It didn’t take long until they were called grainsacks. Nowadays grainsacks are still a beloved product, often used for decoration but also as an useful object. Friends of linen all around the world praise the advantages of these attractive grainsacks and use them as pillowcases, sew table runners out of their fabrics or use them to store bread, clothes or other things. Especially antique linen bags possess a special charm because of their colourful stripes, monograms, embroideries or washed out seals. We bought the grainsacks offered in our webshop all over the world. All of them are at least one hundred years old and they certainly would have unbelievable stories to tell.

We create something special out of linen grainsacks

Many customers do not want to abstain from the beautiful visual appearance and mystique aura of an antique linen bag, but on the other hand don’t have any use for a big grainsack. In such cases we offer an exclusive sewing service and thus are able to transform antique grainsacks as needed into linen table runners, linen pillow cases, linen towels or into anything else our customers desire. Antique grainsacks are perfectly appropriate to create comfortable pillow cases, as they can absorb moisture very well and act cooling in the summer, no matter if the fabric is woven in a very fine way or made from rough fishbone-linen. We can create a number of small pillow cases or table sets out of one big grainsack, if wanted. Many of our linen grainsacks are stitched up manually at the cutting edges. If you undo these threads you receive a big piece of antique linen fabric ready to be used to sew fancy stuff at home. Through sewing operations and embroideries you can create lovely and personal gifts for your loved ones. Even modern linen bags or linen clothes can be made out of grainsacks.

You can use grainsacks for their initial purpose

We know that there is a huge temptation to create unique linen products out of our antique fabrics for your home, but of course they can be used for their initial purpose as well. Put in closets or on door wardrobes you can store your clothes in these beautiful grainsacks, as linen fabrics are breathable. Potatoes and other food can be stored in an antique grainsack in your pantry or cellar, even though it would be a pity to use these pretty bags for such a cause. Of course pastry, bread and corn can be kept in grainsacks as well. Some of our antique grainsacks still have small holes for ribbons, strings or cords to cord them up properly. Otherwise such small holes can be die-cutted easily. Even backpacks can be created easily out of griansacks by attaching belts or strings. Linen bags make great sporting bags, as the fabric is extremely breathable.

The right treatment of linen grainsacks

Among all other linen products antique grainsacks are very easy to properly care for. They can be washed at sixty degrees without shrinking. Fabric softeners, to high spinning speeds or the use of a dryer affect the fabric and should be avoided. If you want to do your grainsack a favour, let him dry in the fresh air. It is important though to get the grainsacks back in while they are still moist a bit, so you can get them smooth through ironing.
